We welcome contact from independent colleges and universities that wish to develop or submit existing courses. Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. Practitioners consider each person unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Graduates from NTEC Accredited courses work in one-to-one clinical practice, with groups, in wider industry and academia, using the most up-to-date nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences. Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Our mission is to set and advance the standards for nutritional therapy. We act as a resource for regulators, professional associations and other stakeholders in upholding competence and advancing the capability of nutrition professionals. Ensures that the courses meet national standards to allow graduates to work in one-to-one clinical practice using latest nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences. Involves rigorous scrutiny of the course, institution and resources, ensuring that they meet the Nutritional Therapy Core Curriculum and the National Occupational Standards (NOS). Courses that support the professional development of nutritional therapy graduates and other nutrition professionals . the Nutritional Therapy Core Curriculum and clinical training that meets NTEC provides certification for nutrition and lifestyle medicine courses that support the professional development of nutritional therapy graduates and other nutrition professionals who are members of a professional body and/or registered with either a relevant PSA-recognised Statutory or Accredited Regulator. Therefore all reference in documentation that refers to the ‘Nutritional Therapy Commission’ or ‘NTC’, should read ‘Nutritional Therapy Education Commission’ or ‘NTEC’ respectively. Accreditation is a one stage process and all training providers, whether small colleges or large institutions, follow the same process: Accreditation involves rigorous scrutiny of the Training Provider's course, institution and resources. A substantial evidence file is submitted for review, containing detailed information on educational processes, governance and management. This is followed by an Accreditation visit, whereby a team of three assessors visit the training establishment and assess it against a number of essential requirements set by the NTEC. This is designed to verify that the Training Provider is teaching to the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the Nutritional Therapy Core Curriculum. Graduates of courses that have been fully accredited are eligible to apply for direct entry to the professional register held by the [Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)](http://www.cnhc.org.uk/), which [PSA](https://www.professionalstandards.org.uk/)\-accredited and supported by the Department of Health. See Table 1 for levels and 4.15 and 4.17 for descriptor. In the UK there are eight levels and Qualified NT practitioners are recognised to have reached a validated (University or other Ofqual recognised validating body for example Qualifi) level of 6 or 7 by completing an NTEC accredited course and other nutrition professionals will have an equivalent level 6 or 7 Nutrition Qualification. Level 6 qualifications for example include graduate certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees with honours and level 7 includes master’s degrees and postgraduate diplomas. The Regulated Qualifications Framework sets criteria for levels and an individual, corporate body or a commercial company cannot set a level. NTEC recognises courses that are good for those who have achieved level 6 or higher in their professional qualification, and, if you would like to know more about the skills associated with that level then the [following link will be helpful](https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/list-of-qualification-levels). Reasonable adjustments should be in place for students with specific needs appropriate to the nature of the course and the length of the course. NTEC recognises that many courses will be submitted from outside the world of formal education and so will not be expecting multiple learning outcomes, but we do ask for a clear, broad description of what the course is about and how that will benefit practitioners. The intended learning outcomes for the course describes what the student should be able to do by the end of the course and could include, for example, areas such as knowledge, understanding, application, synthesis and evaluation. For an example [here](https://www2.worc.ac.uk/aqu/documents/WritingLearningOutcomesGuide.pdf) and as stated above NTEC recognises that some short courses maybe outside formal education. In the same way, if the course is modular, each module should have a set of appropriate learning outcomes which will be narrower, more specific and link to the assessment and marking criteria. Experiential learning is simply a way of learning by activity, this might be, for example, be sharing real case studies and discussing them with an experienced tutor, either individually or in a group. The key point is that there is learning by actively engaging in real experiences and then reflecting on those to gain a deeper understanding of the subject. Essentially learning by doing and connecting theory to practice. Formal assessment can take many forms, and the course provider is actively encouraged to design their own assessment of the learning. **Assessment/marking criteria** suggest what the learners are expected to do to demonstrate they have achieved the relevant learning outcomes for the module/course. They should be clear, explicit and transparent in a marking scheme/grid/rubric. See an example [here](https://www.york.ac.uk/media/healthsciences/documents/student-intranet/exams-assess/marking-criteria/MarkingCriteria_L6.pdf) from the University of York. Many more can be found online. If the learning is experiential, then the guidelines that those teaching the course will use to assess this, should also be provided. This can include an evaluation of the student's practical experience, for example, through evidence-based portfolios/reports which may include analysis, reflections, discussion etc. See here for an example, and you will find more online. **Moderation or** second marking, where relevant, should be evidenced, as well as processes for resubmission and remarking. In the event of a failure a suitable range of assessments should be available for students with specific difficulties and reasonable adjustments should be made. There are many styles of referencing so choose one and ensure consistency within your list. For some examples see [here](https://library.worc.ac.uk/referencing) or [here](https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/paper-format/reference-list).  We are not expecting you to reference each document submitted or to fully reference each slide, module or the course, but we will want to see one list of references that support all the material being taught. The feedback will be anonymous and the results will feed into a google sheet that we will be happy to share with you. An example of how this works is available on request. YOU are at the centre of personalised care for improved wellbeing Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. **Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.** Personalised nutrition is tailored specifically for you, taking into account your health journey, your health goals and dietary preferences. The practitioner may use functional tests to inform the recommendations that are based on your unique biological individuality. Personalised nutrition consultations are relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis; anyone with persistent digestive issues or those wishing to support an autoimmune condition, as well as those looking to enhance their health and wellbeing. Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners do not diagnose or treat disease, and recommendations are not a replacement for medical advice; practitioners frequently work alongside medical professionals to support individual’s wellbeing. The field of personalised nutrition is still evolving before truly becoming an integral part of the future healthcare paradigm, and including personalised nutrition guidance and therapeutics, as is discussed in below paper by ANA. Bush, Blumberg, El-Sohemy, Minich, Ordovas, Reed, Behm, 2019 Nutrients and other food components influence the body's function, protect against disease, restore health, and determine people’s response to environmental change. Nutrient means any substance normally consumed as a constituent of food: Under certain circumstances and in some individuals, diet can be a serious risk factor for a number of diseases. Common dietary chemicals can act on the human genome, either directly or indirectly, to alter gene expression or structure. The degree to which diet influences the balance between healthy and disease states may depend on an individual’s genetic makeup. Some diet-regulated genes (and their normal, common variants) are likely to play a role in the onset, incidence, progression, and/or severity of chronic diseases. Dietary intervention based on knowledge of nutritional requirements, nutritional status, and genotype (i.e. “personalised nutrition”) can be used to prevent, mitigate or cure chronic disease Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners combine a network approach to complex systems, incorporating the latest science from genetic, epigenetic, diet and nutrition research to inform individualised recommendations. Nutrigenomics. [The basics by the Nutrition Society](https://www.nutritionsociety.org/blog/nutrigenomics-basics)[.](https://www.nutritionsociety.org/blog/nutrigenomics-basics) Professional dietary and nutritional advice tailored to individual genotype – where complex interactions between diet, nutrition and other lifestyle practices, as well as age, gender and current health status, are translated into protocols – may be termed ‘Nutrigenetic Counselling’. Nutrigenomics is a study of the effects of food and food constituents on gene expression, and how genetic variations affect the nutritional environment. The new paradigm of personalised precision nutrition with use of nutrigenomics data is emerging. Precision nutrition evaluates one’s DNA along with microbiome and metabolic responses to specific foods and dietary patterns to allow practitioner to recommend the most effective dietary choices for each individual.
